Vans and transporters

A delivery van is a three-, four-, or six-wheeled motor vehicle primarily intended for the transportation of goods and can be operated with a regular car driver's license. The decisive factor is the legal classification as a truck and/or the design. A van in the German language refers to a motor vehicle with five to seven, and in rare cases up to nine seats (with a continuous front seat bench), which, thanks to a variable seating concept, usually also with individual seats in the back and a high silhouette, can be used much more variably than a conventional station wagon. In a broader sense, this refers to all types of cars with raised bodywork, high-roof station wagons, and small buses.

Smaller versions are also referred to as Multi-Purpose Vehicle (MPV), partially called hatchbacks in German. A light commercial vehicle refers to small trucks that can be driven with a Class B driver's license due to their permissible total weight of up to 3.5 tons. The payload of a light commercial vehicle is between approximately 0.5 and 1.5 tons. From 3.5 tons, a tachograph is mandatory as well as a Class C1 (up to 7.5 tons) or Class C driver's license.
