ZF launches series production of electric drive for light commercial vehicles

The new electric central drive CeTrax lite, a product of the ZF division Commercial Vehicle Solutions, is starting series production. The Friedrichshafen technology group has incorporated and adapted its experience from the development and production of electric passenger car drives for the powertrain, which is intended for light commercial vehicles, as the company reports.

Designed as a "highly integrated electric drive," the component is intended to support commercial vehicle manufacturers in achieving emission-free transport in the city and on the "last mile." According to ZF, orders for the CeTrax lite have already been received from Asia and America. Production in Friedrichshafen has already begun.

Winfried Gründler, Head of the Powertrain Systems Product Line in ZF's CVS Division:

“As an electric central drive, CeTrax lite allows our customers to electrify their existing vehicle platforms. This proves our technical approach and is further evidence of customers' trust in our technical solutions.”

The electric drive represents a new milestone in the company's "Next Generation Mobility" strategy, as the product was specifically developed for "quiet, emission-free urban transport." It offers "the highest level of performance and efficiency" and demonstrates the corporation's ambitions towards "industrial decarbonization," Gründler emphasized.

Highly Integrated E-Mobility Solution

The corresponding technology aims to provide an "intelligent, turnkey solution" for light commercial vehicles and, according to the information provided, supports both the architectures of conventionally powered vehicles and the electrification strategies of manufacturers. Additionally, both self-developed components and the capacities of the company's e-mobility system, including the shared test benches in Friedrichshafen, would be utilized for the new application.
