Yamaha pushes the turnaround and builds its own pedelecs - as a car replacement

Japanese companies are responding to the bike trend and are taking the entire bicycle construction, following the drives, into their own hands. To start, they are introducing three e-bikes as their own brand for MTB, off-road, and urban use.

The Japanese technology company Yamaha is further accommodating the trend towards bicycles and, following the already long-launched drives, is now presenting an entire e-bike series. Although the Japanese introduced the world's first mass-produced e-bike almost 30 years ago: the original PAS was originally intended for commuting and shopping, and the manufacturer sees it as the spark that ignited the entire e-bike movement. Additionally, the company has developed into one of the major e-bike manufacturers for the Japanese market as well as an important supplier of e-bike systems, the latter also in Europe. However, they did not actively become a bicycle manufacturer on a broad scale.

Now, however, they are ready for the age of two-wheeled electric vehicles, as it is said. The Switch ON strategy announced at the beginning of 2022 underscored the company's entry into the world of electromobility, with the aim to become one of the leading manufacturers in the market for two-wheeled electric vehicles and to convince customers of zero-emission transportation for sports, leisure, and work. This includes e-bikes, scooters, and pedelecs.

Consistent: They are building their own pedelecs

The next step follows with the introduction of three models in the popular segments of urban, MTB, and gravel under their own brand. The Moro 07, the Wabash RT, and the CrossCore RC are tailored to a wide range of riders, from people who are already owners of Yamaha motorcycles and scooters and appreciate the strong brand values, to customers looking for a good price-performance ratio combined with proven technology. The e-bikes can be test-ridden at exclusively selected Yamaha motorcycle dealers. Orders are placed exclusively through the Yamaha webshop.

A modest commuter bike as a car replacement

For commuters and as a car replacement in everyday life, the CrossCore could be particularly interesting, offering an "accessible all-round bike that aims to appeal to a wide range of urban commuters who want to travel by bike instead of car or public transport." To this end, they provide a range of easy-to-mount trekking accessories, making the bike suitable for longer tours as well.

The CrossCore utilizes technology found in some of the premium eMTBs, including Zero Cadence Technology and an automatic assist mode with a gradient sensor, designed to make the ride easier and more enjoyable—especially on inclines or against the wind. The drive is powered by the high-quality Shimano SL-M2010-9R gear system with the best-selling, quiet PW-ST drive, delivering a maximum torque of 70 Nm and supplied by a 500-Wh battery that delivers strong performance both on the road and on unpaved paths.

Elegant and simple in design

Emphasis was placed on a simple and smart design with subtle style. The functionality is completed by Yamaha's Display A control unit, which presents essential information on a large-format display.
