The young Chinese brand XPeng has achieved several top positions and a class victory in the current ranking of the Center of Automotive Management (CAM) from Bergisch Gladbach. According to this, no other premium brand is as innovative as XPeng in autonomous driving and advanced safety systems (ADAS). With a total of 86 points, the Chinese brand, which has been represented on the German market since May 2024, also lands in third place among the most innovative premium brands – just behind Mercedes-Benz and BMW. In the cross-class overall ranking, which also takes into account volume manufacturers and multi-brand corporations, the company, founded only in 2014, ranks seventh.

X9: Second Place

According to CAM, one of the most innovative models is the X9 electric minivan presented at the Guangzhou Auto Show – the model is currently not for sale in Germany and is therefore not homologated. With an innovation strength of 42.2 points and numerous assistance systems being used in this vehicle class for the first time, the van lands in second place in the CAM ranking.

“The result of the CAM innovation study will also help us make the young brand known in Germany,” says Markus Schrick, managing director of Xpeng Motors (Deutschland) GmbH. “Interested parties are welcome to get a firsthand impression and arrange a test drive with an XPeng model at one of our 24 partner locations nationwide.”

The Study

Since 2005, the CAM under the leadership of Prof. Stefan Bratzel has been annually determining the product innovations of global automotive corporations. Based on quantitative and qualitative criteria such as maturity, originality, and customer benefit, the degree of innovation is evaluated and a brand ranking is created. This year, a total of 359 innovations from 27 premium automobile brands in the technology fields of "Electric Drive," "Autonomous Driving & ADAS," and "Infotainment & Connectivity" were considered. Additionally, a further 124 pre-series innovations or studies from premium brands indicate the development trends of automobile manufacturers in the future.

XPeng in Germany

After Norway, Sweden, Denmark, and the Netherlands, XPeng also started in Germany in May 2024. Customers here already have a choice between the sports sedan P7 and the large SUV G9, which is available at the 24 locations of the twelve contractual partners as a Launch Edition. In August, a third model in the popular C-segment will follow with the SUV-coupé G6.
