Xpeng G6 comes to first European markets

In China, Audi and Volkswagen are currently getting a bit of "tutoring" from the start-up Xpeng, pronounced "Shao-Pong". The G6 is clearly targeting Tesla's Model Y and is first coming to the Netherlands, Norway, Denmark, and Sweden.

Xpeng is also taking off in Europe, but with caution: The elegant G6 will first be introduced in Scandinavia and the Netherlands and will cost from 42,990 euros for our western neighbors, with the Model Y starting 3,000 euros more expensive there.

For Xpeng, the G6 is the fifth series and the third in Europe. The G6 marks a significant leap because it is the first Xpeng model based on the new 800-volt platform "SEPA 2.0". It comes standard with rear-wheel drive but can also be optionally chosen with dual-motor all-wheel drive. The base model delivers 190 kW and 440 Nm, the single-motor long-range version 210 kW and 440 Nm, and the AWD 350 kW and 660 Nm. The sprint to 100 km/h should be possible in four seconds in the latter case. Top speed is always 200 km/h.

The base comes with a 66-kWh LFP battery for up to 435 kilometers of range according to WLTP (which is roughly equivalent to the base Model Y with rear-wheel drive), though in reality, it's more likely to achieve around 300 kilometers plus or minus x. Strong point: The small LFP battery can be charged with up to 215 kW.

The larger NCM battery boasts 87.5 kWh capacity for 550 to 570 kilometers of range according to WLTP, so realistically around 400 kilometers plus or minus x. Here too, Xpeng paid attention to charging power, which is said to be up to 280 kW. The charging process from 10 to 80 percent should thus take "less than 20 minutes" for both models. AC charging so far unfortunately "only" works three-phase with 11 kW.

The dimensions aim at the CUV mid-range: 4.75 meters in length, 1.92 meters in width, and 1.65 meters in length* are intended to provide plenty of space inside with a 2.89-meter wheelbase. The trunk volume can be expanded from 571 liters to up to 1,374 liters.

*Note: One of the dimensions appears to be repeated and might need correction.

The G6 comes standard with 20-inch alloy wheels, and towing capacity has also been considered: an optional electrically deployable tow hitch is available for up to 1,500 kilograms of braked towing capacity.

What does that mean?

800-volt platform, fast charging, decent towing capacity: the G6 gets many things right and also looks good. It could also capture market share in the mid-range electric segment in Germany. Within the EU-Xpeng program, it clearly holds bestseller status.
