Wrightbus has signed a contract worth up to half a billion pounds (approximately 596 million euros) for the delivery of up to 1,200 locally emission-free buses to the British transport company Go-Ahead over the next three years. They are to be built at Wrightbus's headquarters in Ballymena. The deal is the largest in the 78-year history of the Northern Irish company. The vehicles are set to be used in places such as Plymouth, Gloucestershire, East Yorkshire, London, and on the Isle of Wight. Their operation can save 1.13 million tons of CO2. Additionally, ten trees will be planted in the cities where the buses are deployed for each vehicle manufactured.

Matt Carney, CEO of Go-Ahead Bus: "This multi-million-pound investment and the partnership with Wrightbus will accelerate the transition to an emission-free fleet across the UK."

In addition to directly supporting 500 jobs in production, the £500 million investment will also create a further 2,000 jobs throughout the UK supply chain by 2026.
