VW is considering a cooperation with Renault for a 20,000-euro electric car.

The Volkswagen Group is apparently considering plans for a cooperation with the French competitor Renault to realize a 20,000-euro electric car. According to a report by "Handelsblatt," the development of a small electric car is being discussed, based on information from several individuals familiar with the matter. Recently, the French company, led by former Seat chief Luca de Meo, presented its idea for a fully electric Twingo, which is expected to hit the market by 2025 for under 20,000 euros. However, it is said that the discussions are still at a very early stage and could also lead to nothing. Neither Renault nor Volkswagen spokespersons wanted to comment on the "speculation," according to the medium. So far, VW has only announced the ID.2All, an electric vehicle in the 25,000-euro category that is roughly the size of a Polo but is supposed to offer more space.

The new "Twingo" is set to launch in 2025, which would also be an appropriate time to replace the (still) current model that was once developed with Smart and therefore features a rear engine and rear-wheel drive but, like the second generation Twingo, never achieved the cult status of the original version. The latter is newly cited in many details. Based on its platform, Dacia is likely to build an even more affordable Spring successor.
