VW ID.7 Pro S breaks Nardo record with 941 kilometers
Volkswagen has set a new efficiency benchmark on a circuit in the southern Italian town of Nardò: A standard production ID.7 Pro S with 210 kW (286 PS) covered a distance of 941 kilometers with just one battery charge (net 86 kWh). This surpassed the model's maximum WLTP range (combined) of up to 709 kilometers by 232 kilometers or 32.7 percent. This corresponded to an average consumption of only 9.2 kWh/100 km. Converted to diesel, this is approximately 1 liter per 100 km. The aim of the experiment conducted in Nardò was to explore the maximum efficiency of the ID.7 Pro S introduced in 2024.
The test drive with the new ID.7 Pro S was completed in December by professional drivers from the Volkswagen Driving Experience on the Low Speed Ring in Nardò at outside temperatures ranging from 5 to 15 degrees Celsius. The 12.5-kilometer circuit allows for the targeted simulation of various traffic scenarios and long-distance tests. The average speed during the efficiency test was 29 km/h. This corresponds to typical rush hour speeds in major cities. According to the latest “Traffic Index” by navigation specialist TomTom, these range from 22 km/h (Hamburg) to 31 km/h (Amsterdam).
No technical modifications
The ID.7 Pro S with an 86-kWh battery (net) is designed as a production model for maximum efficiency and is one of the longest-range electric vehicles in its class. The test vehicle was also not technically modified for the trial but came from the current series production of the Emden electric mobility plant. The foundations for the efficiency of the ID.7 Pro S are its strong aerodynamics and the state-of-the-art drive system. The drag coefficient (cw value) is 0.23 (depending on equipment).
Efficient Drive
The drive of the "APP550" type is intended to be as efficient as it is powerful. The electric machine integrated into the rear axle develops a maximum torque of 545 newton meters, allowing for a consumption of the ID.7 in the official WLTP cycle between 16.2 and 13.6 kWh/100 km and accelerates the ID.7 Pro S from a standstill to 100 km/h in 6.6 seconds. On the road, the ID.7 Pro S also charges quite quickly for a 400-volt model thanks to a DC charging capacity of up to 200 kW. With this charging capacity, it takes on energy for another 244 kilometers in just 10 minutes. From 10 to 80 percent, the battery is fully charged with DC charging capacity in approximately 26 minutes.
Positive Trend in Europe: Things Are Slowly Looking Up
Whether ID.7 Sedan or ID.7 Tourer – both variants are ideal for families and long-distance drivers: With plenty of space and high comfort, they impress as fully electric vehicles with their long ranges.
Translated automatically from German."We are seeing a positive trend in Europe in terms of order intake and are currently selling more ID.7 models than Passat. This shows that the ID.7 is a sensible fully electric addition to the brand's product portfolio and is just as suitable for long-distance drivers and as a company car, alongside the successful Passat model," promotes Martin Sander, Volkswagen Board Member for Sales, Marketing, and After Sales.
