“Moneyball” is an avid Twitter user when it comes to electric mobility: He shares images of burning electric models as well as brand-new ones. Among these now is the VW ID.6. It originates from the ID. Roomz and is expected to hit the roads in China this year, where it will also be initially built. The images seem to indeed come from official sources, as the SAIC-Volkswagen joint venture has just received an official production/sales permit for the new ID.6 from the Chinese Ministry of Industry and Information Technology (MIIT). Europe and the USA can expect the ID.6 no earlier than 2022.
The 4.87-meter-long, seven-seater could also be an electric alternative to the Sharan, which is likely to be phased out in the foreseeable future. The ID.6 might initially be the top SUV in the ID. family and could offer as much interior space as the Touareg. Technical details are scarce, having been taken from the MIIT application and provided by Twitter user Moneyball. There is no information yet on range and battery capacity, but it is expected that the largest batteries from the ID.4 and others will be used, offering up to 450 km range according to WLTP, and 475 km according to NEFZ in China.
The system power is stated to be 150 kW (maximum) and 70 kW (regular). Externally, the ID.6 measures 4,876 mm x 1,848 mm x 1,680 mm and has a wheelbase of 2,965 mm. The curb weight in China is specified as 2,280 kilograms, with a maximum weight of 2,840 kilograms.
The power levels could range between 125 kW and 225 kW (170 to 306 PS), and there are two batteries with a net capacity of 52 or 77 kWh. Thanks to the DC fast charging option, 80 percent charge could be reached in 30 minutes with up to 150 kW.
What does this mean?
Neither visually nor in content is the ID.6 a big surprise: It was announced and fits seamlessly into the ID. family. It was foreseeable that it could offer a lot of space and seven seats over almost 4.9 meters, but it also speaks to the MEB package, as the last row of seats towers over the electric drive of the base version. Many customers are likely to look forward to the logical and consistent completion of the program upwards.
