Anyone traveling in a fully electric Volvo benefits from numerous improvements: The Swedish premium car manufacturer simplifies charging its electric cars at public stations. In the future, the charging process can be started and stopped remotely via smartphone using the Volvo Cars app. The new Volvo EX90 also features the "Plug & Charge" function as the first model of the premium brand, which automatically initiates the charging process at compatible stations—no additional authorization is required. Billing and payment are also simplified.

Collaboration with Digital Charging Solutions

As one of Europe's largest e-mobility providers, Digital Charging Solutions will significantly simplify the use of public fast-charging stations with its platform.

"By enabling access to even more public charging stations through a single app, fully electric driving and charging will become even more convenient and easier for our customers," says Julia Sandén, Business Owner for Charging at Volvo Cars.

Offer starts in November

The service will be rolled out successively from the end of November. In addition to the compact Volvo EX30 and the large Volvo EX90, which will be launched next year, existing customers driving the fully electric Volvo C40 Recharge Pure Electric and Volvo XC40 Recharge Pure Electric will also benefit.

“We are very excited about our new partnership with such a strong and established brand like Volvo, which is on the path to full electrification,” explains Markus Bartenschlager, Chief Commercial Officer (CCO) at Digital Charging Solutions GmbH. “At DCS, we continuously work to make charging simple and accessible for everyone. We are proud to offer this service to Volvo customers as well. By the end of the year, Volvo Cars customers throughout Europe will benefit from our continually growing public charging network.”

New Features for Business and Private Customers

As part of the partnership, Volvo Cars is introducing various new features aimed at improving the process for both private and business customers. Those who opt for a Volvo EX90 can in future steer to the (compatible) charging station and plug in the cable – the charging process will start automatically. The large electric SUV is the first Volvo model to feature a "Plug & Charge" function, which eliminates the need for additional authorization via a charging card or chip.

With the smartphone control of the charging process via the Volvo Cars app, the charging process can be started, stopped, and controlled remotely, and corporate customers can set up a separate business account for VAT and invoicing, simplifying the process for business users and companies.

What does this mean?

In the future, Volvo customers will have access to more than 590,000 public charging stations from over 1,000 different providers in 30 European countries via the Volvo Cars app – making cross-border travel no longer an obstacle. Those who choose a subscription for public charging stations will also benefit from preferential rates at high-performance fast-charging stations.
