Volvo: Next update for C40 and XC40 Recharge

Hardly on the market, the fully electric models C40 and XC40 are already being facelifted by the Swedes. The C40 also comes as a Single Motor. Pre-selected trim levels reduce complexity.

Also very fast on the road with a single motor: The C40 comes with front-wheel drive, but it's not exactly cheap either - starting from 49,000 euros. | Photo: Volvo Cars

The fully electric Volvo models are already receiving another facelift in the new model year shortly after hitting the market. In addition to a restructuring of the equipment levels, the Volvo XC40 Recharge Pure Electric gets a sharpened design, and the visually unchanged Volvo C40 Recharge Pure Electric receives an additional drivetrain version. With the new offer structure, which applies to all Volvo models starting from model year 2023, the Geely subsidiary also simplifies the configuration process on the internet, akin to Tesla, with fixed equipment levels and various options for additions. This aims to reduce complexity and increase transparency.

The Volvo XC40 Recharge Pure Electric now aesthetically aligns closer with its fully electric sister model, featuring a frameless grille as the face of the fully electric Volvo XC40 Recharge. While the exterior can be individualized with new paint options and wheels, new leather-free seat covers are available in the interior.

The C40 Recharge, recently awarded the Top Safety Pick+ by the American Insurance Institute for Highway Safety (IIHS) for its safety level, also comes with an additional drivetrain variant. Alongside the all-wheel-drive version, there is an entry-level model with a 170 kW (231 hp) electric motor and front-wheel drive, modeled after the sister brand Polestar's Model 2. Combined with a 69-kWh high-voltage battery, it offers a range of up to 423 kilometers in the combined WLTP cycle. At fast-charging stations, the battery can be charged from ten to eighty percent in 32 minutes. The entry-level price for the base C40 Single Motor is 48,850 euros (RRP including 19% VAT). From 2030, only fully electric models are to be sold.
