With the Volvo FH Aero, Volvo's FH truck series gains another family member. With aerodynamic design and innovative features, the newcomer is said to enable "a new level of fuel efficiency." Thanks to improved aerodynamics and new technologies such as the new camera-monitor system, the FH Aero can save up to five percent in energy consumption and emissions, according to the manufacturer.

“The new Volvo FH Aero is our most efficient truck ever. We continue to reduce CO2 emissions across our entire product range,” proudly assures Roger Alm, President of Volvo Trucks. “This is a Volvo truck at its best—a safe, beautifully designed, and high-quality truck for demanding long-distance tasks, developed for the success of our customers.”

The truck is offered in four variants, including a version with biofuel and an electric version. The recently awarded International Truck of the Year 2024 FH Electric also receives an energy-efficient addition with the Aero variant. The Swedish commercial vehicle manufacturer announces the Volvo FH16 in the new variant as the most powerful truck in the industry, suitable for the toughest tasks.

All Aero models share a lower energy consumption and, consequently, a greater range. Safety and driving characteristics have also been improved.

Optimized fuel consumption through aerodynamic design

The front of the cab of the Volvo FH Aero has been extended by 24 centimeters compared to the standard Volvo FH. This significantly contributes to improving the aerodynamics of the truck cab, thereby reducing fuel consumption and improving driving stability in windy conditions.

The improved aerodynamics lead to better coasting properties for the Volvo FH Aero Electric. As a result, more energy can be fed back into the battery during braking or downhill driving, which is available again for the next acceleration or uphill drive.

More Safety and Efficiency with Cameras Instead of Mirrors

The new model series' modern camera monitor system serves both aerodynamics and safety. Its use instead of conventional exterior mirrors enlarges the driver's field of vision, thus enhancing safety for both the driver and nearby traffic participants.

This also positively impacts visibility in rain, darkness, direct sunlight, and tunnel driving. When driving with a trailer, the camera system features an automatic swivel function that follows the turning trailer.

Further Highlights

Volvo's I-See technology, developed to save energy and reduce carbon dioxide emissions, uses a cloud-based topographic map to optimize driving style and allow more time in cruise control. This saves energy and makes driving more relaxing.

New, patented brakes with drag-free brake pads extend the lifespan of the brakes while simultaneously reducing energy consumption and emissions.

An enhanced audio system with six high-quality premium speakers, a new amplifier, and a subwoofer improves the sound experience. The navigation system, with enhanced maps specifically tailored to the needs of trucks and automatic map updates, aims to facilitate efficient goods delivery. The new interior also includes an integrated microwave and USB-C ports.

My Business Apps by Volvo has been introduced in additional markets. It is a subscription-based service that allows customers to download business-related apps from various providers and use them on the side display of the truck, positively impacting the uptime and daily usage of the truck.

The new tire monitoring service provides fleet managers with a comprehensive overview of the truck and trailer through Volvo Connect. This reduces the risk of a breakdown or high additional costs due to a tire failure.

The new truck models of the Aero series will be launched gradually in 2024 and 2025 in four versions: Volvo FH Aero, Volvo FH Aero Electric, Volvo FH Aero Gas-Powered, and Volvo FH16 Aero.
