Volkswagen Financial Services: 200th Charging Point in Braunschweig
On July 11, Dr. Christian Dahlheim, Chairman of the Board of VWFS AG, together with Works Council Chairman Andreas Krauß and Braunschweig's Mayor Dr. Thorsten Kornblum, inaugurated the 200th charging point. Volkswagen Financial Services will further accelerate the pace of installation and build an additional 290 charging points – to have around 500 operational in Braunschweig in the medium term.
“The electric vehicle family in the Volkswagen Group is growing – currently the ID.7 from the Volkswagen brand and the Audi Q8 e-tron are coming onto the market. This includes an adequate charging infrastructure. We are not just talking about it, but are increasingly taking action ourselves,” says Dahlheim and continues to plan:
“We assume that around 20 percent of all charging processes take place at the workplace. Therefore, the commitment of companies is so relevant. Also important: All charging stations are powered by electricity that comes 100 percent from renewable sources.”
154 of the mostly 11 kW AC charging points are primarily intended for Volkswagen employees. 46 of the charging points are publicly accessible for guests and customers on the VWFS campus in the north of Braunschweig and at the data center in Rautheim. There are now also six public charging points with 22 or 50 kW of power.
“Comprehensive provision of charging infrastructure is the decisive prerequisite for the success of electromobility in Braunschweig. To achieve the ambitious goals of our climate protection concept for Braunschweig, electromobility makes an important contribution. I am pleased that companies like Volkswagen Financial Services are also taking responsibility for the path towards more environmentally friendly mobility,” says Dr. Thorsten Kornblum, who adds:
“As an automotive financial services provider, it is especially important for us to lead the way in building the charging infrastructure in Braunschweig. We thereby promote the sustainable mobility of our workforce and simultaneously increase the attractiveness of our location. We also hope that other companies in Braunschweig will follow our example. Because workplace charging is a key to the breakthrough of electromobility.”
What does this mean?
Volkswagen has committed itself as the first automotive group to the Paris Climate Agreement and aims to be climate-neutral by 2050. By 2030, the group plans to increase the purely electric share of deliveries in Europe to more than 70 percent. Alone within the Volkswagen brand, ten new Volkswagen e-models are set to be launched by 2026 – including an entry-level model for around 25,000 euros. Accordingly, the charging infrastructure is being expanded at the locations. 500 VWFS chargers in Braunschweig alone are a strong statement.
