Cybersecurity specialist VicOne will present its Smart Cockpit solution at the Consumer Electronics Show (CES) in Las Vegas from January 9 to 12, 2024. In collaboration with partners such as P3 digital services, a leading provider of In-Vehicle Infotainment (IVI) systems, the Japanese company offers what it claims to be a secure IT environment for Android Automotive OS-based IVI solutions with protected data for drivers and passengers. This automotive cybersecurity solution continuously assesses risks to data security and protects email addresses, bank account numbers, credit card data, social security numbers, and more from cyberattacks. It also informs the driver about resource-intensive apps. It will be demonstrated at the P3 booth using a real vehicle.

Many additional features

As soon as a data breach or insecure IT solutions are detected, customers are immediately notified so they can take action and protect themselves. The cockpit platform includes a diverse app store, intelligent navigation, a digital and personalized voice assistant, charging functions, media access, and entertainment features. It offers fully automatic over-the-air software and firmware updates.

"For the mobility of the future, automakers must focus on enhancing the user experience, meeting the demand for complete vehicle personalization, and enabling e-commerce, social activities, and entertainment in cars through cutting-edge screens and communication. This also includes developing the user interface to make the car an extension of the users' smartphones while ensuring that customer data and privacy are protected. And this is not a futile endeavor. Cybersecurity is a necessary cost factor for OEMs, but it can also be monetized. However, providers should first protect their customers' data through advanced smart cockpit cybersecurity solutions to earn customer trust," explains Max Cheng, CEO of VicOne.

The use of smartphones in controlling cars significantly expands the attack surface of a vehicle – through telematics systems, Wi-Fi, Bluetooth, UWB, OBD II, and GPS to mobile devices.
