Vello receives German Sustainability Award

Viennese folding bike manufacturer and mobility provider VELLO GmbH has won the 2022 German Sustainability Award for Design. Folding bikes are part of sustainable mobility solutions for cities; Vello bikes can be quickly folded and easily transported on (subway) trains or stored under a desk, explains the manufacturer. As an ultra-light folding bike, the Vello Bike is part of the intermodal transport concept and effortlessly handles all daily routes of the riders in combination with public transport.

“If we want to successfully master the mobility transition for urban traffic, we need not only better infrastructure but also good design solutions that encourage people to change their mobility behavior. Only then will the 60 percent of car trips currently made for short distances of less than five kilometers be replaced by a clean alternative," says Valentin Vodev, designer and founder of Vello.

For longer commuter routes, the electric VELLO Bike+ is also suitable, with energy recovery based on Formula 1-tested K.E.R.S. technology (Kinetic Energy Recovery System). This provides a theoretically endless range, making a car obsolete. The manufacturer also promotes awareness towards gentle, green mobility and demonstrates that a sustainable mobility transition is possible with award-winning functional design, according to the statement.
