In his new role, Andreas Rade will take over the Policy and Society division at the German Association of the Automotive Industry (VDA) from January 2022. The Communication, Media, and IAA divisions, as well as Association Management and Member Services, will be merged. From January 2022, the leadership of this newly united division will be taken over by Jürgen Mindel, who, in addition to his previous responsibilities, will be responsible for the economic issues of the association and its finances. The management will continue to include the Products and Value Creation division under the leadership of Dr.-Ing. Joachim Damasky.

The future focal points of Andreas Rade include areas such as climate, transportation, environment, and sustainability, as well as tax policy and foreign trade and fundamental issues. Additionally, Rade is responsible for the support of manufacturer groups II and III as well as the office in China.

Rade is currently the managing director at the Berlin office of the German Engineering Federation (VDMA). Previously, he worked for over ten years for the Alliance 90/The Greens parliamentary group in the Bundestag, including as the office manager for the then parliamentary group leader Renate Künast and as a traffic advisor. Rade also engaged in social science mobility research at the TU Berlin.

“The transformation to climate-neutral mobility is a huge challenge and at the same time a great opportunity. I am looking forward to my new tasks and to working with the members as well as with my future colleagues,” explained Rade.

Challenges of Transformation

In the coming years, regulatory requirements and conditions from Brussels will become even more critical for the automotive industry, especially in light of the challenges of transformation. As explained by the VDA, it is responding to this situation by establishing a new executive office under the leadership of Dr. Kurt-Christian Scheel. Scheel will coordinate European policy and legal issues within the VDA in the future. This aims to further enhance the visibility of the VDA in Brussels and better represent the importance of European and legal policy in the work of the VDA. In his role, Scheel will report directly to President Hildegard Müller, represent the interests of the VDA in Brussels from a prominent position, and thus continue his previously successful work as Managing Director of Politics and Society in a new capacity.

VDA President Hildegard Müller explains:

“With the reorganization developed and implemented over the past eighteen months, the upcoming new structure in management, the strengthening of the office in Brussels, and the new financial architecture of the association developed and adopted together with the members, we have made the VDA fit for the future.”
