The Swedish micromobility start-up Vässla has expanded its product portfolio to include commercial users and is launching the Vässla Club for Delivery in the German market. The subscription model includes an all-around premium service and offers delivery services and couriers exclusive access to the unconventional electric moped. This vehicle is a combination of e-bike, e-scooter, and e-moped, providing couriers with a new, time- and resource-saving mobility option. By introducing a new vehicle category in delivery logistics, they aim to contribute to reducing car traffic in Berlin.

Food delivery as a driver of traffic transformation

They particularly have the booming food delivery industry in mind. According to the Consumption and Media Analysis (VuMA), more than 16 million people in Germany order food from a delivery service once or multiple times per month. The Digital Market Outlook, a tool providing current market figures and forecasts for the digital economy, predicts a consistent growth of about 18 percent in the online food delivery segment in Germany until 2024.

“Delivery logistics offers enormous potential to advance the traffic transformation. Every order delivered with a climate-friendly vehicle is an important contribution to reducing emissions and making life in a big city more sustainable. With the Vässla Club for Delivery, delivery services can revamp their vehicle fleet, benefiting both the environment and delivery riders,” promotes Vässla Germany CEO Hannes Ahbe.

Individual transport, but in a different way

The Swedes' basic assumption is that private transport, especially cars, will become increasingly insignificant in European cities. However, this does not mean a rejection of individual transport. Through a subscription model, delivery services and couriers can use their own e-mopeds cost-effectively without having to purchase them. If they are no longer needed, the subscription ends, and the e-mopeds are made available to other users. Additionally, the micromobility provider ensures that with its all-around premium service, delivery riders always have a fully functional means of transportation.

Action month in Berlin: Drive, rent, make a statement

Cities are overcrowded due to influx, and the increasing traffic is worsening air quality. They aim to offer a simple solution and encourage people to move sustainably in the city. From November 15 to December 15, the “Sustainability Month” will take place in Berlin and Madrid, where Vässla has also been active since October. Interested customers can ride the Vässla e-moped for free for a month after signing up for the membership. Additionally, for every new customer gained, a tree will be planted, promoting their concept.
