The French automotive supplier Valeo has been awarded the contract for the e-powertrain of the Indian SUV manufacturer Mahindra & Mahindra (M&M) and will supply a specific series of the ‘Born Electric’ passenger vehicle platform and the on-board charger combination for its electric commercial vehicles. The total order amounts to almost 1 billion dollars and was already included in the overall order volume for high-voltage drives that Valeo announced in its third-quarter results. With its new state-of-the-art electric vehicle ‘Born Electric,’ Mahindra & Mahindra is fulfilling its vision to lead the electromobility revolution in India.

The company will invest near the Mahindra plant in Pune, Maharashtra, to localize the production of the electric drivetrain in India. This includes the electric motor, its inverter, and the gearbox, as well as the integrated bi-directional 3-in-1 combo power electronics, which includes the onboard charger (OBC), the DC-DC converter, and the power distribution unit (PDU).

"Valeo is convinced that electrification is the future of mobility. Our locally developed and manufactured solutions will help Mahindra & Mahindra offer Indian customers electric vehicles with higher voltages and greater range. This partnership is an important step forward for Valeo in the Indian electric vehicle market," says Xavier Dupont, Valeo Powertrain Systems Business Group President.
