The boom of electrically supported two-wheelers continues. There are now 8.4 million e-bikes in Germany, with one in eight bicycles equipped with an electric motor. The trend is still rising: e-bikes are equally suitable for commuters, families, health-conscious individuals, and sports enthusiasts to travel longer distances relaxedly while still being sustainable and sporty. However, the price is a decisive purchasing criterion for many. Therefore, more and more consumers are opting for second-hand purchases, as revealed by a survey conducted by the opinion research institute YouGov on behalf of the e-bike refurbishment specialist Upway.

It doesn't have to be the latest

According to this, 41 percent of respondents would consider buying a used e-bike. The most mentioned reasons for a used e-bike are price (55%), no need to own the latest model (40%), and the sustainability aspect (36%). More than half (57 percent) of interested buyers would opt to purchase from a specialized second-hand dealer who also offers a warranty. Only 31 percent of respondents would not buy a used e-bike.

Almost half (44 percent) of them would be convinced otherwise if the price is significantly cheaper compared to a new purchase, and 41 percent say that a warranty would convince them of a used e-bike. Half (55 percent) want an e-bike in an affordable price range and would spend between 500 and 1,000 euros for a used e-bike. For an e-bike, 21 percent of respondents would spend between 1,001 and 2,000 euros. Only 4 percent would be willing to spend more than 3,001 euros on a used e-bike.

500 Refurbished E-Bikes in the Shop

The online shop for refurbished E-Bikes, Upway, currently has over 500 refurbished electric bicycles for under 2,000 euros on offer, including city E-Bikes, trekking E-Bikes, and mountain E-Bikes, and offers a one-year warranty on all bikes. With over 1,700 electric bicycles in stock, Upway offers a wide selection of second-hand refurbished E-Bikes.

Significant Savings Especially on Cargo Bikes

Savings can also be found on often costly cargo E-Bikes: They are particularly popular in the Upway shop because they replace the car for many families in daily life. “With Upway, we aim to make electromobility accessible to everyone while simultaneously avoiding the waste of valuable resources like components and batteries," explains Toussaint Wattinne, co-founder and CEO of Upway. “Our E-Bikes are up to 60 percent cheaper than a new purchase and have been checked and renewed by E-Bike experts in up to 20 steps.”
