In January, the express service trans-o-flex put the first two electric cars into operation for its fleet of more than 200 company vehicles. According to CEO Wolfgang P. Albeck, more are to follow:

“We have decided to convert the entire fleet of company vehicles to electric vehicles. For us, this is another step towards our goal of operating CO2-neutral across the company by 2045 at the latest.”

However, the express service, which specializes in pharmaceutical transportation, sees itself forced to continue relying primarily on modern diesel engines in the truck sector. As Albeck explains, various tests of electric delivery vehicles have shown:

“As a specialist in transporting sensitive goods, especially pharmaceuticals, our requirements for range, payload, and cooling capability are currently not met by electric vehicles. We are constantly testing new models, but so far we can only use them for selected, special routes without compromising our performance promise.”

The new company car policy at trans-o-flex stipulates that from now on all employees who receive a new vehicle must choose one of three models with either pure electric drive or hybrid drive. These vehicles are not only quieter, but their CO2 emissions are significantly lower than those of previous diesel engines. According to the manufacturer, the CO2 emissions of the three vehicle types that will make up the future company car fleet are 0 g/km (highway and city traffic combined) for the Skoda Enyaq 60 iV (pure electric). For the plug-in hybrids Skoda Superb 1.4 TSI and Skoda Octavia 1.4 TSI, it is 30 g/km.

Sustainability managers drive the first two electric vehicles

The first two electric company vehicles will be driven by two new sustainability managers at trans-o-flex. The aim of these positions, created in the fourth quarter of 2021, is, according to the company, primarily the further development and planning of trans-o-flex's sustainability strategy and the implementation of plans into concrete management processes. Together with a team of specialists, their tasks also include the further development of appropriate key performance indicators as well as contacts with environmental protection organizations, energy and waste management associations, and research and development institutions in the field of sustainability.

“In the spirit of a holistic sustainability concept, we want to have an impact both internally and externally, on employees as well as on customers and partners,” adds CEO Albeck.

“Therefore, our sustainability managers and their team will also develop and implement concepts to increase environmental awareness and social engagement, refine our annual emissions balance, take care of customer-specific CO2 balances, and, in regular exchange with the specialist departments, also operationally reduce further CO2 emissions in a targeted manner.”
