Toyota: Pleasing Fleet Result
While Covid-19 caused a sales slump for Toyota in 2020, the fleet business in Germany performed very well. Although the first half of the year was noticeably impacted by the outbreak of the Corona pandemic, the importer was able to increase commercial contracts in the second half and, with 27,188 new registrations for the entire year 2020, was only slightly below the previous year's level by the end of the year according to their own figures.
The driving force was light commercial vehicles. Here, the Japanese reported a new record result. Commercial new registrations increased by 26 percent compared to the previous year to a new peak of 10,245 units. The order books, which were also filled with more than 4,000 orders at the beginning of 2021, suggest that this trend will continue in the new year, especially as the program has recently been expanded to include the new Proace City based on the Citroen Berlingo.
In summary, Toyota was able to increase its market share in the German fleet market by 0.2 percentage points to 2.1 percent in 2020. 17,000 new registrations in this area mean 11th place in the manufacturers' ranking – and thus first place among Asian import brands.
What does this mean?
The PSA additions in the commercial vehicle sector helped Toyota get through the pandemic well – and earned them the crown in the fleet business among Asian importers.
