Toyota and Suzuki announce joint E-SUV

The Toyota Motor Corporation and the Suzuki Motor Corporation have decided to deepen their collaboration. In the future, Toyota's all-electric product range will be expanded by an SUV model developed by Suzuki. This will be produced from spring 2025 at the Indian Suzuki plant in Gujarat. Both Japanese manufacturers have their roots in Enshu in the west of Shizuoka Prefecture and both began by manufacturing looms before later focusing on automobile production. Since the beginnings of closer collaboration in 2016, a far-reaching partnership has developed between the two manufacturers, offering mobility and driving pleasure to people, as the credo states. Currently, the collaboration includes the production and mutual supply of vehicles as well as the expansion of electromobility. In the course of this, the market introduction of vehicles from the cooperation has been extended to Japan, India, Europe, Africa, and the Middle East.

First BEV from the cooperation

The new development is the first battery-electric vehicle resulting from the manufacturers' partnership. It will be introduced globally and expands the offering in the growing market for battery-electric SUV models. The manufacturers see the new model as a milestone on the road to climate neutrality. The vehicle was specifically designed as an electric vehicle and is based on a platform jointly developed by Suzuki, Toyota, and the Daihatsu Motor Corporation, utilizing the respective strengths of the participating companies, as stated. The electric SUV is promised to impress with the dynamic driving characteristics of an electric car, a long range, and a comfortable interior. Combined with the optional all-wheel drive, the model is expected to be even more performant and have better traction.
