The new Nissan Qashqai comes as a serial hybrid called e-Power.
The new Qashqai remains loyal to combustion engines and comes without diesel. The main engine will be the 1.3-liter gasoline engine, which is offered as an e-Power mild hybrid. The combustion engine nearly continuously charges a battery via a generator. The electricity, in turn, drives the electric motor through an inverter. Therefore, the actual axle drive and driving experience are purely electric.
The assistance systems are also further developed in the new generation: The next-generation "Pro Pilot" can accelerate and brake the car to a set speed within a highway lane, among other things. The navigation system also takes a step forward and automatically adjusts the speed to the current speed limits and reduces the driving speed automatically before particularly tight curves or exits.
But in terms of size and comfort, the new Qashqai is also set to improve, not so much through dramatically larger exterior dimensions, but rather through a more intelligent package. Nissan promises more legroom in the rear and one and a half centimeters more headroom in all seats. The trunk volume is expected to increase by 74 liters to 504 liters. The top versions will offer Nappa leather seats with a massage function. Some features can be accessed or controlled from the outside via an app.
The next Qashqai will feature, among other things, a configurable 12.3-inch TFT display and a 10.8-inch head-up display, voice control via Google Assistant and Amazon's Alexa, as well as a WiFi connection for up to seven devices. The central screen of the Nissan Connect system grows to nine inches.
What does this mean?
The next Qashqai will be electrified. It's a pity that it won't even be a plug-in hybrid. In the medium term, the Japanese will also add a Leaf successor below the Ariya.
