Tesla Roadster: Matchbox once again faster than Musk

Elon Musk should feel flattered that Mattel, with its brands "Hot Wheels" and "Matchbox," is downsizing all his models to scale and very affordably – with the minor downside that the children of this world are all driving Semi, Cybertruck, and now Roadster rather than their parents! Typically, it's the other way around: by the time car manufacturers finalize contracts for the reproduction of their models and release the corresponding data, the original is usually already on the road. Except when the model is released for promotional purposes simultaneously with the original. Not so with Tesla. After the Cybertruck from Hot Wheels, the Roadster has now also landed in German toy stores and discount retailers, where it is generally priced between 1.00 (Tedi Markt) and 1.99 Euros.

New: The first Matchbox model made from recycled zinc!

The Matchbox model, incidentally, is the first to be made almost 100 percent from recycled materials, specifically 62.1% recycled zinc, 1% stainless steel, and 36.9% recycled plastic. The same applies to the packaging: Matchbox has committed to producing all die-cast models, playsets, and packaging from 100% recycled, recyclable, or bio-based plastics.

And contrary to Tesla, where Elon Musk would have loudly trumpeted such actions, nothing can be seen from Matchbox: NOTHING! Just a few hints on the packaging, that's it. Also, the price remained (thankfully) unchanged.

And the quality? Right on! Well-made proportions, clean prints, and sufficiently fine detailing should ensure large quantities for collectors and children's rooms.

What does that mean?

While Tesla is hitting the brakes on new releases in 2022, Mattel completes its planned program: Hot Wheels offers the Model S (also tuned), Model X, Model 3, Model Y, and the Cybertruck, while Matchbox offers the Model S, the Semi, and the Roadster.
