Tesla Model 3 Base: 7,000 Euros more expensive, but 1,500 Euros less in subsidies!

Third round of price increases at Tesla – this time for the base model – by an outrageous 7,000 euros: This pushes the net price above 40,000 euros, resulting in a 1,500 euro reduction in the subsidy.

Outrageously high and unfortunate is the price jump now for the Model 3 in the basic version. After the Long-Range model and the Performance version each became 2,000 euros more expensive at the beginning of March, the base model is now jumping from 42,990 euros to 49,990 euros. That is just under 42,010 euros net. As a result, the maximum subsidy drops from 9,000 euros (6,000 euros purchase subsidy, 3,000 euros manufacturer contribution) to 7,500 euros (5,000 euros purchase subsidy plus 2,500 euros manufacturer contribution), which further increases the cost of the Model 3. For the higher Bafa bonus, the Model 3 should have cost only 47,588 euros – it seems someone didn't think this through – or Tesla doesn't care once again – especially since no reasons have been given for the massive increase.

Still, the delivery date remains vague, especially since the factory in China could increasingly come under quarantine pressure due to the new pandemic lockdown there. Tesla currently states the delivery date as "expected in 2022"; the more expensive variants are expected to be delivered by August. The timeline for the Model Y, now from Grünheide, looks even more relaxed: Deliveries are supposed to start from May.

At least Tesla seems to be planning another update for the Model 3 and new colors: besides an elegant silver-gray, an ice-blue metallic and a dark maroon-red appeared on a YouTube channel. This is likely to be little consolation for the customers of the base model, though.

What does this mean?

Tesla has always been known for sudden price jumps, which always tended to be higher upwards than downwards. However, making the base model so unfavorable and massively more expensive that the subsidy is also cut off is simply thoughtless and outrageous. Especially since more and more manufacturers are avoiding this by pricing their stronger models as "special equipment."
