Tesla: Delivery Record in the First Quarter of 2022

Tesla achieved a new delivery record but not a production record. Production slightly decreased compared to the fourth quarter of 2021 to now 305,407 vehicles. Of the 310,048 deliveries, according to Tesla, 295,324 units were Model 3 and Model Y, and a slim 14,724 were Model S and Model X. The two “large models” S and X have still not been delivered internationally since the update. At least the production seems to be slowly picking up again.

Production numbers slightly decreased in the first quarter of 2022: according to Tesla, they produced 291,189 Model 3 and Model Y as well as 14,218 Model S and Model X. But Tesla is also facing problems: the assembly in Shanghai was closed for several days in March 2022 due to the local COVID-19 lockdown, which is why they did not reach the level of the fourth quarter of 2021. Currently, the pandemic-related production pause in Shanghai is being further extended because the Chinese government is pursuing a strict “zero-COVID” policy.

Nevertheless, the increase is enormous: In the first quarter of 2021, Tesla was still at 184,800 deliveries. In the meantime, expansion work has begun in Shanghai and the two new locations in Austin and Grünheide are expected to show significant production increases by the end of the year.

What does this mean?

Tesla is continuing to grow massively – and may potentially compensate for the restrictions in Shanghai with the ramp-up in Austin and Grünheide. Thus, by the end of the year, despite the problems, one million Teslas could be produced – provided the overall economic climate does not completely collapse.
