Survey: German drivers value the quality and performance of tires

This underscores that choosing the right tires is one of the most important steps to prepare for winter conditions. Survey results in Germany showed that three out of five drivers (58 percent) choose winter tires because they prefer the optimal tires for their vehicle. Only 25 percent stated they use winter tires due to legal regulations, suggesting that most drivers prioritize safety, performance, and confidence in winter driving over mere compliance.

Drivers who use winter tires report that they perform best on snow and ice. More than half of German drivers also state that they continue to be confronted with these winter driving conditions.

Do Not Underestimate the Benefits of Premium Tires

The data suggests that the benefits of investing in premium tires should not be ignored by drivers, especially in challenging winter conditions. German drivers seem to know this: Compared to the European average, they place more value on quality and performance when selecting new winter tires.

Snowflake Symbol Requirement for Winter Tires Since October 2024

In Germany, since October 1st, only tires with the snowflake symbol meet the legal requirements for winter tires. Using summer tires or other tires without this marking carries the risk of fines, penalty points in Flensburg, and dangers to one's own safety as well as that of other road users.
