Stellantis: Combo vans now only electric

The brands Peugeot, Citroen, and Opel will be flipping the switch from January, selling the e-Rifter/e-Berlingo/e-Combo Life and e-Traveller/Spacetourer/Zafira-e Life exclusively as electric vehicles.

The Stellantis group brands Peugeot, Citroen, and Opel have completely phased out diesel for the station wagon versions of their technically identical light and medium transporters from January 2022, offering the respective models in Europe only as electric vehicles. This initially does not affect the purely commercial van versions, which will continue to be available as an alternative to the electric model with 1.5- and 2.0-liter diesel engines. However, it is a clear signal for a strategic realignment. For Peugeot, this concerns the city van models Rifter, as well as the Traveller and Expert Kombi, which are now only available as electric vehicles. At Citroen, the Berlingo and Spacetourer are now only available electrically, and at Opel, these are the Combo-e Life and Zafira e-Life models.

“There is no alternative to electrification. From 2024, every model without exception will also be electrified. From 2028, we will sell exclusively battery-electric Opel vehicles in Europe,” explains Opel-CEO Uwe Hochgeschurtz on behalf of the company.

In two lengths, always with a fast charger

Like its identical siblings from Opel and Citroen, the Peugeot e-Rifter offers space for five or seven people in two lengths and is equipped with a 100 kW (136 PS; 260 Nm) strong synchronous electric motor and a 50 kWh lithium-ion battery, which should enable a range of 280 km (WLTP). The minibus e-Traveller is available in three lengths and with two battery capacities of 50 and 75 kWh, which also supply the 100 kW (136 PS) electric motor and allow the comfortable transport of up to nine people with a combined range of up to 330 km (75 kWh, WLTP).

For more commercially oriented users, the robust and less elaborately equipped e-Expert, which also comes in two lengths, is also an option, with a consumption of WLTP 26.8-25.6 kWh/100 km. To enable faster shuttle rotations or to facilitate longer journeys, all Stellantis van batteries can be charged to 80 percent at a fast-charging station with a 100 kW charger in about half an hour. The 11 kW on-board chargers are standard in AC. The manufacturer points out the full Bafa subsidy of 9,000 euros, which can be claimed for the models in their current form until the end of 2022.
