Stadtwerke Trier: 18 new electric buses and fully electric by 2034

2025: 40% of the SWT bus fleet electric

SWT Board Member Arndt Müller adds:

"By the end of 2025, we will deploy 39 e-buses, which corresponds to more than 40% of our bus fleet. As an energy and infrastructure service provider, we use the opportunities of sector coupling. This way, we can supply our buses with regionally generated green electricity instead of diesel. Part of the energy is generated directly at our depot through photovoltaic systems. By the end of 2034, we aim to operate our bus fleet 100% electrically."

The investment in Trier's mobility transition was made possible by the Federal Ministry of Transport, which supports the acquisition of the 36 new electric buses and 36 150-kW charging stations at the depot with a funding amount of 12 million euros.

Outlook

Elmar Kandels, Managing Director of SWT Stadtwerke Trier Verkehrs-GmbH, provides an outlook on the next steps: "We will equip the 17 solo buses and the articulated e-bus with line-ready features and equip them with the latest onboard technology in the coming weeks. We expect to integrate them into our bus network by the beginning of the new year. We will primarily use the articulated e-bus on lines 6, 13, and 81, and the solo buses on lines 2, 4, 7, 14, 82, 84, 85, 86, 88 and 89. For the year 2025, we have ordered 17 articulated e-buses and one solo."
