Solutrans 2021: Renault Master Z.E. - larger battery, more range

With a battery pack that has grown from 33 to optionally 52 kWh, likely the wish of many customers, the electric transporter is also expected to succeed with a superstructure or in rural use.

The French commercial vehicle manufacturer Renault is apparently working on a version with an enlarged battery for its all-electric van, the Master Z.E. At the stand of the former sister brand Renault Trucks, which continues to cooperate with Renault in the van sector, there were several Master Z.E. variants with a battery now increased from 33 kWh to 52 kWh (net). This option is expected to be available and will make the vehicle, previously available only as a panel van up to 3.1 tons, suitable also for heavier applications up to 3.5 tons or for variants with a box body. The range is set to increase from 120 to up to 190 kilometers, with a remaining decent payload in the L3H2 panel van of 870 kilograms.

In addition, a 22 kW AC charger is now being combined, with which the batteries are supposed to be charged to 80 percent in two hours and 100 percent in three hours. However, propulsion continues to be provided by the moderately designed 57 kW electric motor with 220 Nm of torque. Looking ahead, the manufacturer has already announced that the completely new powertrain from the new Renault Kangoo E-Tech will also be incorporated into the Master. This produces 90 kW and 260 Nm and features a 45 kWh net capacity battery sourced from the Chinese specialist CATL. So far, a battery pack developed jointly with LG Chem has been in use.
