The newly conceived industry meeting mobility move – the successor to the VDV E-Bus Conference – will be nearly sold out with around 1,400 participants and 90 exhibitors from March 5 to 7 in Berlin. This was announced by the organizing VDV. The presence of 20 e-vehicles at the trade fair also represents a new record – including autonomous and hydrogen fuel cell buses.

Connected Traffic in Focus

The mobility move is all about connectivity in road-based public transport on the street.

"Electromobility and autonomous driving only work as connected systems. The same applies to demand-responsive traffic as well as digital passenger information and ticketing. Despite all the technology, it is clear that this requires skilled labor – and we are acknowledging this important aspect with our own forum," said VDV Vice President Werner Overkamp.

Electrification goes hand-in-hand with the digitization of the industry – especially in ticketing: For the first time, the experts of the "Kontiki" association are holding their conference as part of the mobility move. The neutral association of transport companies and networks, public transport authorities, IT, industrial, and consulting firms aims to advance digitalization in public transport: It focuses on interoperable, standardized, and, above all, customer-friendly solutions.

Federal Funding vs. Transformation

“The mobility move has the potential to become the public transport event of the transformation. However, the success of the industry meeting cannot hide the political stalemate in the urgently needed e-bus funding: Around 50,000 scheduled buses are in use in Germany – over 6,000 e-buses are currently in regular public transport operations or have been ordered. The quota of over 12% emission-free buses is thus more than three times as high as that of electric passenger cars. Even though public transport is the market leader in fleet conversion, it is foreseeable that the market ramp-up will be slowed down. What the massive cuts in the 2024 federal budget for e-bus funding and their prospective cessation will mean for the conversion in municipalities and for the federal climate protection targets can be calculated by anyone," says Overkamp.

The mobility move, organized by the VDV Academy and the Forum for Transport and Logistics, was co-initiated by DEVK.
