Solaris Urbino 9 LE electric celebrates its premiere
New to Solaris's E-Bus portfolio is the 9.27 m long Midi Urbino 9 LE electric, which comes in the look of the fourth Urbino generation. It can be approved according to class I and II regulations. Thanks to its compact dimensions, the vehicle is predestined for narrow urban spaces as well as steep ascents or winding routes in the mountains.
Three Pantograph Solutions
The Urbino 9 LE electric has an electric, liquid-cooled central motor with a maximum peak power of 220 kW. For energy storage, high-energy batteries with a maximum capacity of around 350 kWh as well as high-performance batteries are available. They are each conventionally charged via plug. As an option, there is also a choice between three pantograph solutions. In addition to a conventional pantograph, charging rails for power supply to an inverted pantograph can also be mounted. Another option is a completely new pantograph type with a greater working height compared to competitors' solutions. With the maximum equipment of 350 kWh, ranges of at least 230 km are likely even under extreme conditions in winter.
Up to 73 Passengers
Features of the new bus model include the larger distances between seats, which also meet the Bus Nordic requirements. Thanks to the modernized design, more headroom has been achieved in the rear of the vehicle. Despite its compact dimensions, the bus offers a relatively high number of seats, most of which are forward-facing. In both classes, the maximum number of seats is 27. Passengers will board the bus through doors in a 1-2 door arrangement. Onboard, there are also areas for wheelchair users and passengers with strollers. Additionally, the bus is equipped with seats featuring the Isofix system for secure attachment of child seats. Depending on the vehicle configuration, the bus offers space in class I for up to 73 and in class II for a total of 60 passengers.
MirrorEye Instead of Mirrors
The driver’s workplace is dominated by an interactive dashboard with touchscreens. The automatic driver assistance systems (ADAS) on board include, among other things, the MirrorEye system, i.e., a set of cameras that replace conventional mirrors, and the Mobileye Shield+ warning system. Moreover, the Urbino 9 LE electric is prepared for the integration of the company's fleet management system eSConnect, which provides telemetric data and data analysis and enables fault resolution – including predictive maintenance. Options also include a Konvekta heat pump.
First Contracts Signed
Solaris has already signed contracts for the delivery of a total of 17 Urbino 9 LE electric units. Società Autobus Servizi d'Area S.p.A in Bolzano, northern Italy, will receive eight units. The remaining vehicles ordered will soon be running on the streets of Polish cities – six in Żyrardów, two in Cieszyn, and one in Zawiercie.
