Shell has put into operation the 37th LNG station for the supply of the transport sector with liquefied natural gas (LNG) in Germany. The LNG station is located on the A3 in Flörsheim, Raunheim exit, near Frankfurt Airport and is now available.

Sönke Kleymann, Managing Director of euroShell Deutschland GmbH & Co. KG: “With this location, we close an important gap in the network for the supply of LNG and future Bio-LNG along the main traffic routes for road freight transport.” With two filling stations and a capacity of 30 tons, around 200 LNG vehicles can be supplied daily at this station.

Europe-wide Expansion

According to its own statements, Shell has one of the largest LNG station networks in Germany. The new facility in Flörsheim is another milestone for Shell's growing network in Europe. In Austria, Shell opened its first LNG station in April 2023, with another one already in planning. The expansion of the network is also progressing in other European countries, for example, the first Shell LNG station in Hungary was opened this year. In France, Belgium, and Poland, Shell currently operates six LNG stations each, with more in planning. Shell's LNG station network forms the basis for supplying the transportation sector with Bio-LNG.

Shell builds liquefaction plant for bio-LNG

Shell has also invested in the construction of a gas liquefaction plant at the Shell Energy and Chemicals Park Rheinland, which will produce bio-LNG once operational. The plant is another step for Shell on the path to becoming a net-zero CO2 emissions energy company and makes an important contribution to the decarbonization of heavy-duty transport in Germany.

Sönke Kleymann: "To further advance the decarbonization of heavy-duty transport, we want to cover the entire value chain for bio-LNG. In this context, the gas liquefaction plant is an important milestone. At the same time, we are also holding planning discussions on the construction of biomethane plants in Germany."
