Sharing Offensive: Munich Opens First of 200 Mobility Points
As announced, the capital city of Munich, together with the public transport operators MVG and MVV, has opened the first of 200 planned "mobility points." These bundle sustainable mobility offers for sharing. Shared mobility offers are an attractive alternative to private cars and an optimal complement to public transport trips, according to those responsible. This is especially true when the offers are closely linked and easy to use. In Munich, this linkage is to take place at up to 200 so-called mobility points. Munich's Mayor Dieter Reiter, together with Mobility Director Georg Dunkel, Construction Director Dr.-Ing. Jeanne-Marie Ehbauer, MVG Chief Ingo Wortmann, MVV Marketing Manager Sandra Bobic, and with the support of shared mobility providers, opened the first so-called mobility point in Knöbelstraße.
The opening of the mobility point in Knöbelstraße is just the beginning. As early as Saturday, June 17, 2023, another seven mobility points will follow: at Oberanger, Georg-Freundorfer-Platz, Heimeranplatz, Westendstraße, Falkenstraße, Kolumbusplatz, and Schlottauerstraße. Over the course of this year, an additional 60, and by the end of 2026, a first expansion stage of 200 such points are to be established throughout the city. The goal is a comprehensive network of mobility points for Munich. This network is intended to enable all Munich residents to reach sharing offers within a five-minute walk from their own homes. The mobility points can be recognized by corresponding information steles marked with the "mp" logo. The mobility points are a project from the "Shared Mobility" sub-strategy, part of the "Mobility Strategy 2035," which was approved by the Munich City Council in January 2022.
The use of the offers is intended to be simple. After registering via the app or website of the respective provider, vehicles can be used flexibly and returned at mobility points, in parking areas, or freely within the business area of the providers. The MVG and MVV apps already offer travel information, routing, and live departure times for public transport. In cooperation with the mobility department of the capital city of Munich, they also bundle numerous shared mobility offers in Munich and the region for the mobility points, with the aim of eventually providing comprehensive information on all Munich mobility offers. In addition to linking the offers, a common, unified concept for the entire region is also of particular importance, it is emphasized. The implementation is therefore being carried out not only in close cooperation with MVG and various shared mobility providers but also with the Munich Transport Association MVV. In the region, starting next year, over 60 more mobility points with MVV-integrated offers will be opened in the Fürstenfeldbruck district in ten cities and municipalities.
