Schweinfurt launches first electric buses on route

The Schweinfurt municipal utilities have added the first two electric buses to their city bus fleet – the procurement of the two MAN Lion's City E buses was supported by the Free State of Bavaria as part of the "Climate Buses" program. 21 more electric buses are expected to follow in the coming months, which will be gradually integrated into the fleet, according to the accompanying press release.

100% climate neutral on the road

The new electric additions with a "modernized interior concept" operate in the regular network, are charged with 100% green electricity, and according to the Stadtwerke Schweinfurt, are fully climate neutral.

"A future-oriented and ecologically focused public transport is a significant component of the integrated climate protection concept of the city of Schweinfurt. The new E-buses not only actively support our city's climate policy goals but also meet the requirements for contemporary urban mobility, and furthermore, enhance the quality of life for the citizens of Schweinfurt on-site," explains Sebastian Remelé, Mayor of the city of Schweinfurt.

The electric MAN Lion’s City buses are equipped with air conditioning. Inside, passengers can expect a modern look with wood-look flooring, light colors, and dark seats. The vehicles are outfitted with "proven components" from the local technology group ZF, are fully barrier-free, and feature an expanded and easily accessible special use area for wheelchairs and strollers. Digital exterior mirrors with an enlarged field of view and minimized blind spots also increase safety for all road users.
