REWE Group could become a hub for electric taxis
Through a strategic partnership with Shell and the Baden-Württemberg energy provider EnBW, the Rewe Group aims to build "one of the largest and most modern fast-charging station networks in Germany" by the end of 2024. Their goal is to have more than 6,000 charging points in operation by that time.
Fast charging points are to be installed at a minimum of 400 proprietary locations of both supermarket chains, as well as additional rental properties, where a total of around 2,000 charging points are planned. At existing rental properties and new buildings, an additional 4,000 charging points are to be installed. Currently, 130 stores in Germany have charging infrastructure, the group states.
A representative from Shell speaks of "ultra-fast charging stations." According to Rewe, power for 100 kilometers of range can be charged in five minutes at the charging points. Regarding the important question of how charging electricity can be paid for at Rewe and Penny, the food specialists have yet to provide details.
EnBW has announced that it plans to establish the first fast-charging locations at Rewe and Penny by 2021. Charging stations with the highest power class of up to 300 kilowatts will be used.
What does this mean?
Fast charging makes sense especially at shopping markets if you really want to noticeably increase the battery level during your shopping time.
