Renault R4 E-Tech in first pictures: France's new revolutionary

Raise the curtain for the Renault 4 E-Tech Electric: This compact electric SUV model, at 4.14 meters in length and still suitable for city driving, aims to echo the versatility and functionality of the original. The first Renault 4 indeed revolutionized the automobile market in 1961. It was the brand’s first family car with a front engine and came without a transmission tunnel, resulting in a flat floor. This made the vehicle suitable for various purposes, whether in profession or leisure, and for a society in transition. More than eight million units sold in over 100 countries reflect this. The new edition, like the 3.92-meter-long Renault 5, is built on the "AmpR Small" architecture: The Ampere platform for electric vehicles in the B-segment is meant to ensure ample space, high agility, and good comfort. The vehicle will be manufactured in Maubeuge, France, with market launch slated for 2025. The newly released images provide a first impression of the exterior of the Renault 4 E-Tech Electric. The French have already revealed a few details:

Grille

The grille extends across the entire width of the vehicle and is framed by a continuous light strip that also encompasses the round LED headlights. For the first time at Renault, the central brand emblem is illuminated, reminiscent of the predecessor model from the 1960s in a technically sophisticated, modern, and original way.

“4” Emblem

A distinguishing feature of the Renault 4 E-Tech Electric is the characteristic “4” on the tailgate.

Rear Lights

The original’s three-part, vertically arranged rear lights have been redesigned according to modern aesthetic principles and considering current technology. The glossy black framing accentuates the unmistakable character of the Renault 4 E-Tech Electric.

Rear Side Windows

The Renault 4 E-Tech Electric features the characteristic trapezoidal side windows positioned right above the rear wheels—one of the distinguishing marks of the first Renault 4. They extend the side glass surfaces.

Modeled Door Sills

The side view of the Renault 4 E-Tech Electric is reminiscent of the plastic cladding of later model generations. The three parallel lines on the doors emphasize and structure the vehicle profile.

Fenders

A sticker extending from the side windshield to the wheel arches highlights the characteristic front fenders of the original Renault 4.

Spoiler

The reference to the roof shape of the first Renault 4 is unmistakable. The roof edge spoiler gives the vehicle a dynamic touch.

Tailgate

The angle of the tailgate, which ends in a notably low loading edge, is one of the trademarks of the Renault 4 E-Tech Electric.
