Renault 5 Turbo 3E: Electric Renaissance of a Racing Icon

Renault is breaking new ground not only technologically: The presentation of the R5 Turbo 3E, which has been confirmed for series production, also brought something new. With the help of an Amazon Prime Video, the manufacturer grants a behind-the-scenes look at the transformation. The new documentary series “Anatomy of a Comeback” (available on Prime Video from December 13) traces how the Renault Group has reinvented itself in recent years. And for those who look closely, there is also an "Easter Egg" with what the manufacturer believes has the potential to become a new brand icon.
 

Sports Car Performance in Iconic Design

In fact, it looks like this: The Renault 5 Turbo 3E represents the modern variant of the Renault 5 Turbo and the Turbo 2 and was presented at the 2022 Paris Motor Show as a show car of the same name. Not only visually built more for the race track, the sporty electric car lights up in the historic colors of one of the rally versions from the early 1980s. Its fully electric drive is combined with retro-futuristic design: In one of the rear air intakes, reminiscent of the original Turbo, is the charging port. The carbon structure of the vehicle is both light and extremely stiff - two characteristics that do justice to a "Pocket Rocket," as the manufacturer boasts. Like its legendary predecessor model, it features rear-wheel drive - however, in the form of two electric motors integrated into the rear wheels delivering a total output of more than 500 horsepower. This allows the reborn model to sprint from zero to 100 km/h in 3.5 seconds.
