Ramelow proposal: Cap the company car privilege for the Germany Ticket

(dpa) The Germany ticket is set to become more expensive next year. Thuringia's Prime Minister Bodo Ramelow has a proposal to prevent this. He suggests capping the company car privilege and limiting it to mid-range cars.

Thuringia's Minister President Bodo Ramelow (Left) considers a price increase for the Germany ticket next year unacceptable. An increase would be an insolence if at least options for price stability are not sought, Ramelow said at an election campaign event of the Left in Erfurt. He suggested capping the company car privilege - limiting it to mid-range cars and no longer applying it to premium cars and large SUVs. "Then there would be money for the Germany ticket," Ramelow said.

The company car privilege is a tax advantage for people who can also use their company car privately. Estimates suggest it costs the state billions annually in reduced tax revenues. However, company cars are an important market segment for some of the major German car manufacturers. Last week, the transport ministers agreed that the price for the Germany ticket is expected to remain at 49 euros this year. However, for 2025, the transport ministers of the federal states have announced a price increase. It is still unclear how expensive the ticket will become as part of the federal budget consolidation.
