Qulectra: New Shunt Precision Resistors for Battery Management Systems
With Qulectra, Wieland and Munich Electrification are taking the next step in the development of precise current sensors with the highest safety requirements, which are intended to be pioneering for a sustainable future – particularly with regard to the increasing networking, as well as the electrification of traffic and transportation.
Both companies are combining their strengths in this newly founded start-up, on the one hand, 200 years of experience in copper materials and processing into customer-specific components, and on the other, profound know-how in battery electronics development. Roman Vorndran, President of the Business Unit Engineered Products of the Wieland Group, stated:
“The combination of material and electronics know-how allows us to successfully position the joint venture in the field of battery sensors, thus enabling us to participate even more strongly in the megatrend of e-mobility in the future.”
Shunt-based precision resistors are used in numerous automotive, industrial, and private applications for current and voltage monitoring in energy systems.
At the end of September, the market launch of Qulectra's products begins. At the launch of the brand, the sensors will be available in two versions – as a basic solution (Q-Basic) and as a smart variant (Q-Smart) with additional software functions. Georg Friedrich Graf, CEO of Munich Electrification, comments:
“It is the right way to combine tradition and innovative strength on equal footing in this joint company. Our customers can already look forward to exciting new products from Qulectra.”
What does that mean?
At Qulectra, high-tech and tradition come together: Founded in 1820, Wieland-Werke is a leading global supplier of semi-finished products made of copper and copper alloys, with a global network of production sites, service, and trading houses. Wieland develops solutions from prototype to series production for automotive, electronics, refrigeration and air conditioning technology, and other industries. In comparison, the relatively young Munich Electrification GmbH develops sustainable battery management systems and electronics thanks to the profound knowledge of passionate professionals from 24 nations, who have already worked for automobile manufacturers such as Tesla, Porsche, Daimler, and BMW. One can look forward to seeing how Qulectra establishes itself in the market – the mix seems competent and interesting.
