Quehenberger Logistics adds three more electric trucks to its fleet
Quehenberger Logistics put three new electric trucks into operation in July. The funding project for the acquisition of the vehicles, applied for jointly with dm Drogerie Markt, was approved at the beginning of 2024, Quehenberger announces.
For Paul Weissenberger, Project Manager at Quehenberger Logistics, the commissioning of the two vehicles is a good step:
“As a future-oriented logistics company, we are pleased to be able to advance this sustainability initiative together with our long-term customer dm Drogerie Markt.”
E-Mobility as a Central Theme in Logistics
Since 2018, Quehenberger Logistics has been focusing on e-mobility. The company sees itself as a pioneer in the industry. According to its own information, it works closely with suppliers to optimize the performance and practicality of electrically powered commercial vehicles.
"We see great potential in electrically powered mobility, especially for city logistics," confirms Christian Fürstaller, CEO and co-owner of Quehenberger.
The three new vehicles that have been added to the fleet since July of this year will also be used in city logistics. The advantages of emission-free delivery and noise reduction convince the company there.
"Traffic noise is perceived as particularly disturbing in the morning and evening. Besides the elimination of exhaust gases, the decisive advantage of e-trucks lies in their noise emissions, which are about half as much as those of conventional commercial vehicles," says Paul Weissenberger.
As the joint branding of the vehicles indicates, the vehicles will be used for the customer dm Drogerie Markt. They are intended to ensure largely emission-free delivery to the approximately 100 dm stores in Vienna and the surrounding area.
“Electric drives make sense primarily over short distances, and the city of Vienna is particularly suited for this. Our inner-city transport logistics will be CO2-neutral and emission-free,” explains Stefan Heiglauer, Managing Director at dm Drogerie Markt.
Further expansion stages of the project with dm planned
The joint project with dm aims to significantly reduce emissions. By 2025, no diesel truck is to drive to a dm branch in Vienna from the Vienna transfer warehouse. In parallel, the distribution center Enns will switch from diesel to hydrogenated vegetable oils (HVO) for all transfer points. According to a statement, Quehenberger Logistics has already secured several million liters of the environmentally friendly HVO fuel and is using it in daily operations within its own fleet.
“The use of HVO in our vehicles brings about a massive reduction in CO2 emissions and a reduction in particulate emissions. The big advantage is that this biofuel can be used directly as a diesel substitute in existing vehicles without any conversion,” describes Quehenberger COO Klaus Hrazdira the advantages. He further emphasizes, “The consumed biofuel is listed in the annually published sustainability report by Quehenberger. In the future, customers will be able to access the CO2 savings achieved through the system.”
By 2025, both companies have ambitious goals for doubling the e-fleet and further expanding the charging infrastructure at Quehenberger locations. Both companies see themselves as responsible for implementing sustainable logistics concepts, thereby easing the burden on the environment and reducing the so-called ecological footprint.
