Qiantu starts production of the K50 electric sports car
In Beijing, the finished and high-quality looking pre-production vehicles were showcased, and now Qiantu is starting production. The interior is dominated by a 15.6-inch touchscreen and a free-standing digital instrument panel. Qiantu Motor belongs to "CH Auto," an automotive technology company based in Beijing. The factory is located in Suzhou, in Jiangsu province.
The company is currently coming back into focus, although it is already considered one of the "established" players compared to the recent wave of new mobility startups. This is because the first concept of the K50 was already shown in 2014. Over the years, the K50 has been updated several times, but the basic design has remained unchanged. The power is provided by two electric motors. Each motor delivers 190 HP and 290 Nm. There is a boost function that can increase these figures to 218 HP and 340 Nm.
The electric sports car is supposed to achieve a range of 380 kilometers according to NEFZ, and with steady driving, Qiantu claims up to 510 kilometers are possible — although this "constant speed" in China typically means only 60 km/h. The carbon sports car is said to weigh 1960 kilos, with a length of 4634 millimeters, a width of 2069 millimeters, and a height of 1253 millimeters, giving the K50 typical sports car proportions.
The price is still unknown. However, it is now estimated to be around one million Yuan, which is approximately 125,000 Euros. Qiantu is planning conservatively in terms of production numbers and initially aims to sell "a few hundred" units of the K50.
What does that mean?
The Qiantu booth in Beijing was impressive, and the quality of the K50 as a first work was convincing. What is possible on the same (!) platform was demonstrated by the manufacturer at the fair with a compact car and a luxury sedan, which stood out mainly due to its wheel design. With this portfolio expansion, they could reach higher production numbers. However, interestingly, they have a premium claim with very realistic and small production numbers.
