Project in Hilden: Charging at Baker Schüren

The baking electric pioneer establishes his own sector coupling and provides electricity from the bakery's photovoltaic system at a Fastned and Tesla destination charger station.

The electric pioneer and master baker Schüren from Hilden has christened his new charging park Seed & Greet. This combines a café-bistro-bakery in the Kreuz Hilden industrial estate with Tesla Superchargers and Fastned fast charging stations. The park features 15 charging spaces for electric vehicles, with a total of 21 connections (14x Type 2 up to 32 A, 14x Schuko with 16 A, triple fast charging station with 50 kW CHAdeMO, 50 kW CCS, and 43 kW Type 2). It uses 100 percent renewable energy sources like the solar systems installed on the bakery's roofs and carport. The charging stations can be accessed during opening hours with a loaned charging card from the bakery store. The cost is 12 euros per charge.

Alternatively, three charging stations can also be used with a Girocard. An original concept is the Back-Bäck-Card, which promotes the motto "Eating for the tank" instead of "Refueling for retirement." As a holder of a Back-Bäck-Card, which can be topped up with reward points through the purchase of baked goods, users can continue to charge for free by redeeming their Back-Bäck points. 1,100 collected points mean a reward of "AC charging for electric cars" for free.

Tesla Destination Charger Without Authentication

The second fast charging station on the house wall is reserved exclusively for the company's own delivery vehicles. The following vehicle brands can charge at the triple fast charging station: Nissan, Mitsubishi, Kia, Peugeot, Citroën, VW, and BMW. For Tesla Model S, a CHAdeMO presence loan adapter is available in the store. Additionally, there is a Tesla Destination Charger, which is available free of charge during opening hours and does not require authentication.

Background to the further electricity measure of the large bakery, which early on adopted e-mobility and its own electricity generation: From 8 AM on weekdays, the power consumption of the bakery decreases until it reaches its lowest point around 1 PM. Due to the efficient and award-winning energy concept, the base load of the building is then so low that the bakery-time-optimized PV systems produce more electricity than the bakery consumes. This electricity is available for charging the e-vehicles. If the sun is not shining sufficiently, charging is done with green electricity from hydropower.
