Power2Drive 2023 kicks off with top participation and pushes for a mobility transition

The organizers of the Power2Drive Europe sub-exhibition, starting on June 14 as part of the energy platform The Smarter E in Munich, anticipate record participation against the backdrop of the urgently needed transportation transition.

"To achieve climate protection goals, transportation must be rethought. In this context, electromobility is currently gaining rapid momentum worldwide. Power2Drive Europe showcases what the mobility of tomorrow looks like and makes it tangible," promotes the organizer Solar Promotion. 

The exhibition organizers highlight their own exhibition forum, a conference, the premiere of the Power2Drive AWARD, and a large outdoor area. Power2Drive Europe is part of The smarter E Europe and will take place concurrently with Intersolar Europe, ees Europe, and EM-Power Europe from June 14 to 16 at Messe München. Over 2,400 exhibitors and more than 85,000 visitors from 160 countries are expected, including around 250 for Power2Drive alone.

The world of mobility is part of a system of closely interlinked sectors: The combination of photovoltaics (PV), storage, and e-mobility is seen as key to providing electricity for mobile living, the organizer promotes. Sector coupling is already being implemented in areas such as parking lots, contributing significantly to building a comprehensive charging infrastructure for e-mobility. For example, charging stations could be powered by PV electricity.

"Electromobility is the central pillar for a successful transportation transition and accordingly makes an important contribution to decarbonization. In Germany alone, more than one million electric vehicles were on the roads in 2022. These already possess 55 gigawatt-hours of storage capacity, more than all the pumped storage power plants in Germany combined. By standing and being connected to the grid, these vehicles can ideally be used to stabilize and flexibilize the power grid. With the target of bringing 15 million e-vehicles onto Germany's roads by 2030, an enormous storage potential of 825 gigawatt-hours opens up. Even if only part of this capacity is used for grid stabilization, it is a major leverage for the success of a new energy and mobility world," explained Herbert Diess, Chairman of the Supervisory Board of Infineon Technologies AG and former CEO of Volkswagen AG. 

Focus on Sector Coupling

The exhibition aims to provide a comprehensive insight into industry developments. Charging system manufacturers such as KEBA, EnerCharge, Siemens, Wallbox, Webasto, and Zaptec will be represented at the international trade fair for electromobility and charging infrastructure in Munich. Within the framework of the trade fair, the forum in Hall B6 will offer a series of expert presentations providing a comprehensive insight into the dynamic development of the mobility transition.

For example, the session "CPO & EMP – the Backbone of the Mobility Transition" on the first day of the trade fair will address the importance of energy suppliers such as municipal utilities for the energy and mobility transition. Following this, the presentation "Fast vs. Slow Charging: Pros and Cons" will discuss facts, challenges, and the economics of different charging technologies with direct and alternating current. The panel "Electrified Fleet Special: E-Fleet – Solutions for Fleet Management" will also highlight various aspects and application cases in the implementation of electromobility within companies and emphasize the hurdles that fleet managers must overcome.

VM THINK TANK: How Fleet Managers Become Energy Managers

VISION mobility is also participating with a THINK TANK: On June 14 from 11:40, the discussion will focus on "Energy Autarky – Illusion or Reality?" and the question of how PV systems, buffer storage, sector coupling, and charging infrastructure can make fleet managers into energy managers and more independent from the energy market. Our experts on the podium will present solutions on how to save energy costs – from energy generation to smart load and fleet charging management.
