Porsche has recently updated its Taycan range, with a general increase in system performance. Now the Swabians are taking it up a notch again: the improved powertrain with a new rear-axle motor delivers even more dynamic driving performance. The new top models, Taycan Turbo GT and Taycan Turbo GT with Weissach Package, achieve up to 815 kW of overboost power for two seconds thanks to a stronger pulse inverter. After all, Tesla’s Model S and X Plaid, as well as the Lucid Air Sapphire, are now also bringing four-figure horsepower EVs to the track. They particularly like to be kept in check on race tracks. In this case, at Laguna Seca and the Nürburgring.

The Taycan Turbo GT accelerates from 0 to 100 km/h in 2.3 seconds (2.2 seconds with Weissach Package), making it faster than the Taycan Turbo S. A key element, the pulse inverter, provides more power and torque with up to 900 amperes. In addition, an optimized gearbox and the use of silicon carbide in the pulse inverter improve efficiency and performance.

For ten seconds at a time, up to 120 kW extra power can be accessed at the push of a button. The Attack Mode is based on the push-to-pass function of the other Taycan models. The system has been optimized for track use and functions similarly to the 99X race cars that Porsche uses in the Electric ABB FIA Formula E World Championship. The boost is shown by a countdown timer in the instrument cluster and dynamically staged with animated rings in the speedometer.

The Attack Mode differs from the push-to-pass function of the other Taycan models by 50 kW more boost power as well as in operation and availability: The Taycan Turbo GT models have an exclusive steering wheel with paddles. Thus, instead of pressing the mode button on the satellite control on the steering wheel, the Attack Mode can also be activated and deactivated via the right paddle. This makes the feature easier to operate on the race track. “You can call up the extra power even with racing gloves, without needing to take a hand off the wheel,” praises development driver Lars Kern, who also set new records:

“With this simple, safe and quick operation, the Taycan Turbo GT models are tailored to the needs of a racer.”

With the left steering wheel paddle, the recuperation level can be adjusted to suit the driving situation. With Kern’s records on the WeatherTech Raceway Laguna Seca and the Nürburgring, the Taycan Turbo GT proves its potential on the track.

Lightweight measures, such as carbon parts and special full bucket seats, reduce the weight by up to 75 kilograms compared to the Taycan Turbo S. Additionally, aerodynamic adjustments and the Porsche Active Ride suspension optimize performance. A notable aspect is the "Attack Mode," which provides extra power at the push of a button, as well as an exclusive steering wheel with paddles for optimized operation on the track.

The Taycan Turbo GT with Weissach Package stands out with further lightweight and aerodynamic measures from the Turbo S, achieving a top speed of 305 km/h and accelerating even faster. Both models are intended to offer an impressive combination of longitudinal and lateral dynamics, aerodynamics, stability, and precise tuning.

Prices for both models start in Germany at 240,000 euros including 19 percent VAT.

What does that mean?

As a GT with the Weissach package, the Taycan actually becomes a two-seater hypercar – which would actually only need two doors. Perhaps the successor, like the electric Dodge Charger, will come with two or four doors again? In any case, this is a strong statement from Weissach – and directly affordable for the superlatives – relatively speaking...
