It was a small but fine event: Polestar invited guests to its "Space" in Munich, where the winning model of the design contest was presented. At the same time, Polestar is launching a partnership with Mattel's Hot Wheels brand. Hot Wheels will be the inspiration for the next Polestar Design Contest, drawing on the innovative and quirky designs from the American brand's 55-year history. To boost the brand's popularity even in children's rooms, Polestar's production vehicles will soon be immortalized as Hot Wheels and Matchbox collectibles.

Just like in real life: The winning design emerged from several submissions

The electric fantasy super sports car "Polestar Synergy" combines three winning designs from over 600 submissions in the latest competition. Participants were tasked with designing a Polestar vehicle that focuses on the performance experience while providing a technically advanced solution to enable this in a sustainable way. After the jury shortlisted ten designs, they selected two winners for the exterior and one for the interior—a first in the competition. The resulting Polestar Synergy is the outcome of a six-month collaboration between the winners and the Polestar design team to transform three different dreams into a cohesive reality. Thomas Ingenlath, CEO of Polestar, congratulated:

"Congratulations to the winners! Your vision and collaboration with our design team have resulted in a truly great car. The collaboration with Mattel for the Polestar Design Contest next year and the planned to-scale models of our production vehicles will bring the Polestar brand and this groundbreaking competition to an even broader audience. All of this proves that electric vehicles—in reality or as toys—can be just as exciting as their combustion engine counterparts, if not even more so."

The final design of the fantasy super sports car is inspired by nature and emotional durability and features a floating single-seat interior design where control is the focus. It will be displayed at the Polestar Space in Munich during IAA 2023, before being showcased at other Polestar locations.

Maximillian Missoni, Head of Design at Polestar, added:

"This year is as much about collaboration as it is about performance. I am proud that the team was able to accompany and support the winners in realizing their dream as a to-scale model. It is not often that student designers receive so much attention early in their careers, which the Polestar Design Community on Instagram already does so well. This is further supported this year by the 1:1 scale model and the planned tour through Polestar locations worldwide."

The two winning exterior designers Devashish Deshmukh and Swapnil Desai live in Paris. Deshmukh's design focused on hollowed-out volumes inspired by a hammerhead shark, while Desai's design was focused on emotional durability with technical upgradability and materials that age gracefully over time. Interior designer Yingxiang Li, who lives in China, designed a cabin with a performance-oriented seating position, offering a new experience where 'floating comfort and control' are the focus.

The ultra-flat hypercar stands only 1.07 meters tall!

In its entirety, the vehicle reflects the core values of Polestar. With a height of only 1.07 meters and a length of 4.56 meters, the car features proportions and details that have never before been seen in the brand. This creates a supercar silhouette that proves electric supercars can be just as exciting as their combustion-engine counterparts.

After its debut, the full-scale 1:1 model will make its way to the USA and will be showcased as a feature model at the Hot Wheels Legends Tour in El Segundo, California, starting on October 7, 2023, before making further appearances at Polestar locations across the country.

In recognition of his extraordinary talent, Kamil Kozik from Poland was awarded in the competition. His sustainability-focused performance go-kart with a reduced structure offers the option to become part of a local power grid when it's not in use.

What does this mean?

Polestar consistently sets strong accents with its design competition. This time, according to Missoni, the decision was "harder than ever" – and in the end, several "winners" came together to form an exciting conclusion. We are looking forward to the next competition.
