Plugsurfing & Chargetrip: New route planner aims to make BEV trips easier

The charging network provider Plugsurfing has integrated a new route planner into its app, aiming to significantly simplify travel with electric cars. Drivers can enter their destination and see where they can charge their car at one of the provider’s 600,000 charging points in 27 European countries along the way. The electric car model can be selected, and based on the range specification as well as the charging status and general condition of the battery, suitable charging options along their route are displayed.

The route planner displays fast or high-speed charging points. Charging stations identified by Plugsurfing as out of service are not shown. The route can be linked to Google or Apple Maps. The route planner is operated by Chargetrip, which claims to be the world's leading platform for range forecasts and EV routing. The algorithm takes into account up to 15 different parameters that can affect the range of an electric car, such as road conditions, driving styles, weather, traffic, and elevation.
