At the 2024 Paris Motor Show, Valeo, a global leader in automotive technologies, and HERE Technologies (HERE), the leading platform for location data and technologies, will present for the first time a new version of the Valeo Smart Safety 360 (VSS 360) system, which integrates a Navigation on Pilot (NOP) function. This function is based on a high-resolution navigation and service experience for connected vehicles – either as a turnkey or customizable Software-as-a-Service (SaaS) solution, provided by HERE. The VSS 360 system is intended to enable OEMs to incorporate safety and parking assistance functions into entry-level models as a turnkey Advanced Driver Assistance System (ADAS).

Thanks to the hardware and software expertise, a variety of safety and parking assistance functions can be provided with minimal impact on the vehicle architecture. A front camera forms the core of the architecture and can be connected with up to six cameras, five radar systems, 12 ultrasonic sensors, and the corresponding software. This scalable approach allows OEMs to optimize costs and efficiency by removing individual control units (ECUs), as the various safety and ADAS sensors are integrated into the front camera-based architecture, the provider advertises. This combines L2/L2+ ADAS functions that meet safety standards such as the latest GSR and NCAP requirements.

The new version presented at the Paris Motor Show combines the Valeo system with an NOP function that provides integrated L2+ functions. These enable automated driving support between two locations across the entire speed range on structured roads (highways or urban expressways) under the driver's supervision. The start and destination points are set by the driver. The NOP function includes longitudinal and lateral vehicle guidance, as well as automated lane change assistance during overtaking or at highway junctions, in addition to other highway assistance functions. HERE provides route and lane-specific navigation information for the NOP function based on the HD Live Map, including the number of lanes, corresponding maneuver instructions, and speed limits.

"The market for automated and safety functions is growing. With the introduction of the Navigation on Pilot function, based on HERE's map and navigation software expertise, OEMs can offer more ADAS functions without significantly affecting the vehicle architecture by optimally utilizing the technologies already used in the vehicle," advertises Marc Vrecko, CEO of the Valeo Brain Division.
