Opel refreshes the Corsa – at times number one in the German registration statistics and usually number one in the compact segment – and therefore extremely important for the brand. With the facelift, Opel introduces mild hybrids, meaning: the 100 and 136 hp combustion engines come with a 48-volt onboard power supply and dual-clutch transmission. There are no statements yet regarding the other engines.

Two electric drives – the more powerful one is also more efficient!

The Corsa E is also being updated, now appearing without a hyphen in the model designation: It optionally comes with increased power and range. Advantage for all Corsa E models: The battery from the new supplier now offers 50 kWh instead of 49 kWh. Moreover, since Opel has also refined the drive train, this results in 50 km more range according to WLTP. The base remains the 100 kW (136 hp) drive, which is supposed to offer up to 357 km range. Above that is the motor known from the Peugeot 208 or DS 3 with 115 kW (156 hp). It is more modern and efficient and is supposed to reach up to 402 km according to WLTP. In reality, the 100 kW Corsa covers around 275 km, while the 115 kW Corsa achieves about 300 km. The latter is a small but crucial improvement for daily use, especially if planning a weekend trip with a one-way distance of about 150 km. Both can charge from 20 to 80 percent SOC (State of Charge) in 30 minutes. In other words: HPC can be charged with a maximum of 100 kW.

The appearance has been sharpened and subtly refined

Visually, the Corsa has become a bit more refined: The Vizor now comes with better Matrix LED headlights, featuring 14 instead of eight LED elements per unit and providing better light. At the rear, it now also carries the broad model nameplate and a newly designed bumper. The better trim lines feature brand logos and inscriptions in black upon request. In terms of paint options, Opel now also offers a solid grey, called "Graphic Grey". The wheels are optionally aerodynamically optimized 17-inch models. And the sometimes still installed rod antenna is now a thing of the past in favor of a small shark fin with a GPS module.

Opel is also upgrading its software: Behind the optional 10-inch infotainment system, Opel installs Qualcomm's Snapdragon Cockpit platform. The more powerful hardware is intended to enable modern graphics and multimedia functions—hopefully also a faster and more intuitive navigation system. The interface can be personalized like in Peugeot or DS. Drivers can store user profiles.

The Corsa is now also to be kept "over the air" fresh

Furthermore, Opel aims to keep the entire system up to date via OTA updates. Thanks to permanent connectivity, the voice recognition system ("Hey Opel") will now understand naturally spoken sentences. Conveniently, the infotainment system now mirrors smartphones wirelessly. In terms of assistants, Opel offers intelligent speed control, a front collision warning system with automatic emergency braking and pedestrian detection, as well as side protection. New on board is an optional high-resolution panoramic rearview camera. Opel has not yet said anything about the prices, but they are likely to rise slightly again: Currently, the Corsa-E starts at 33,895 euros, the cheapest combustion engine model at 18,280 euros including VAT.

What does this mean?

Opel has skillfully refined the Corsa—with the Vizor grille in a literal sense. The fact that Opel is retaining the "old" electric motor in the lineup is surprising, given that it was dropped from the French lineups, highlighting how much more efficient the more powerful engine is. The only argument for the 100-kW version would be a stripped-down electric base model for under 30,000 euros.
