Odin Automotive has announced the official production start of the first vehicles from Streetscooter Engineering (StSE) under the new management. According to a press release dated January 31, 2022, the vehicles will be manufactured on the existing production line in Düren and delivered to Deutsche Post DHL Group (DPDHL). According to the information, the order from the former Streetscooter owner amounts to 3,500 vehicles, which will further convert its postal delivery fleet to electric operation.

The intellectual property rights to the electric delivery vehicles were taken over by Odin three weeks ago. The purchase agreement also includes production lines and StSE subsidiaries in Switzerland and Japan. The takeover also involved an additional minimum order of 3,500 vehicles by DPDHL, which retained a 10 percent stake in the company.

John Burton, EVP of Operations at Odin, oversees the setup and reorganization of the manufacturing plants under the new owner. The manager, who brings long-standing experience in manufacturing, has previously served as a Managing Director for General Motors and as Vice President for Fiat-Chrysler.

“We are incredibly proud to announce this step for our new company and the tireless team behind it,” Burton stated. “We knew from the beginning that the operational maturity of StreetScooter Engineering would give us a significant first-mover advantage, and today we have provided proof that we were serious when we said we wanted to leverage this advantage.”

Odin Automotive is an automotive holding company whose employees in Europe, Asia, and North America work together to transition last-mile transportation of people and goods to an emission-free operation.
